Ridding You of Your Problem Teeth

A portrait of a happy and smiling man

You can rest assured that our office always seeks to save your teeth. Indeed, that’s only natural – these parts of your smile keep your mouth as strong as possible. Even so, sometimes a patient’s teeth simply can’t be saved or salvaged; we offer tooth extractions in Fort Worth for those cases. Such removals often protect your oral health, ensuring your mouth doesn’t get any weaker. To learn more about them, please keep reading or book a consultation to see us.

Reasons Why Tooth Extractions are Necessary

An unhappy woman suffering from a toothache

Our team never takes tooth extractions lightly, as keeping your natural teeth is always better. Removal work is only ever a last resort – something done when we have no other options. Whenever possible, our team will strive to save your tooth with treatments like dental crowns, tooth-colored fillings, etc. Doing so preserves your mouth’s ideal biting, chewing, and smiling tool.

Given the points above, tooth extractions are only needed in severe cases. We’ll only suggest getting one if you suffer issues like the following:

  • A decayed and unfillable tooth
  • Loss of bone tissue that supports a tooth
  • A rapidly-spreading tooth infection
  • Broken teeth that can’t be re-assembled

The Process of Removing a Tooth

At your consultation, Dr. Tillman will assess your tooth and determine whether to remove it. He'll then use his findings to decide how to go about your extraction, assuming it's needed.

In general, a simple tooth extraction only involves a few key steps. The first is that we’ll numb the treatment site, making removal painless; the most you’ll feel from our work is some pressure. Our next move will be to grip your tooth’s crown slowly and carefully with dental forceps. From there, we can simply rock your tooth back and forth until it separates from your gums.

However your extraction goes, we’ll plan how to replace your missing tooth once it’s over. Doing so ensures you won’t suffer from the effects of long-term tooth loss.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare

Every patient must heal from the extraction process, as adult teeth are typically permanent. Your mouth will likely feel achy and sore during this recovery period. With that said, you can manage any lingering pain by doing the following:

  • Roughly 24 hours after the extraction, clean the treatment site with a saltwater rinse.
  • A straw could dislodge your still-forming blood clot, so don’t use one for a few days.
  • To avoid delays in your recovery, please don’t smoke or spit right after treatment.
  • Use store-bought painkillers to reduce post-treatment aches.
  • Don’t chew near the extraction site if it’s still healing.

By using the tips and tricks above, you should heal nicely from your extraction. You can then look into tooth replacement options that restore your smile. After all, restoration work would bring back your full grin, improve your bite, and more!
